Our Story

Built by a family, for families

Better Life began with a simple conviction — that the people we love deserve to age in a home, not a facility.

Meet Abonesh

Founded by Abonesh Bezu

Better Life Adult Family Home was founded by Abonesh Bezu, who spent years caring for elderly and vulnerable adults before opening her own home. She'd seen what aging looks like in large facilities — the loneliness, the rotating caregivers, the meals that nobody recognizes — and she knew there was a better way.

So she built one. A home where six residents — never more — can age with consistency, with familiar food on the table, with a caregiver who speaks their language and knows their stories. A home where her own mother would feel welcome.

That standard hasn't changed. Every decision in this house — from how we hire to how we cook to how we celebrate birthdays — runs through it.

What We Believe

Three things we never compromise on

Smallness

We will never grow beyond six residents. Six is the most we can know deeply — and deep knowing is the entire point.

Cultural respect

Every resident keeps their language, foods, music, and traditions. Our home flexes to them, never the reverse.

Honesty with families

If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you. We'll help you find one that is. Trust matters more than a sale.

Our Approach

Care that flexes to the resident — not the other way around

Most care homes have a schedule and a script. Wake-up at 7. Breakfast at 8. Bingo at 10. Residents fit in or fall behind.

We don't work that way. If your father has been a night owl for 70 years, we're not going to wake him at 7. If your mother always took her coffee with cardamom, we'll have cardamom in the cabinet. If a resident wants to sit in the garden in their pajamas at 5pm because that's when the light is best, we'll bring them tea.

This is what's possible in a six-bedroom home that's not trying to be anything else. It's the thing big facilities can't offer, no matter what their brochure says.

The Home Team
